“Unveiling, Design, and Development of Asymmetric Quantum Matters”FY2024 Area General Meeting/Public Research Kickoff Meeting

From May 29th to 31st, 2024, “Unveiling, Design, and Development of Asymmetric Quantum Matters”FY2024 Area General Meeting/Public Research Kickoff Meeting was held at the Higashi-Hiroshima Arts and Culture Hall. The author of this article Hori (D3), and Associate Professor Kitagawa attended.

A total of 147 participants joined this kickoff meeting, featuring 34 oral presentations and 77 poster presentations. It was a valuable opportunity to hear various research presentations. Particularly memorable was the presentation by Hiroki Yoshida from Team C02, who introduced 16 potential asymmetric quantum materials—it truly embodied the concept that “More is Different”! Moreover, as symmetry, including multipole and magnetic point groups, is crucial in this research field, I strongly felt the need to deepen my understanding of symmetry.

During the poster session and the information exchange at Bistro Papa on the 10th floor of Hiroshima City Hall, there were ample opportunities to discuss research with many participants. It was an exceptionally fruitful conference.

On a personal note, I’m delighted to announce that I received the Poster Award!

After the conference, a lab tour was conducted at Hiroshima University’s Higashi-Hiroshima Campus. Having been an undergraduate at Hiroshima University, it was nostalgic to revisit. Particularly noteworthy was the tour of the HiSOR (Hiroshima Synchrotron Radiation Center), which I hadn’t seen in six years. Additionally, I had the opportunity to view the newly introduced cryogen-free low-temperature material property automatic measurement system at Hiroshima University.
