RESEARCH
I have been interested in superfluidity and topological defects in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates. One of my impressive study is the theoretical study on dynamics of Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in superfluids. It is known that Kelvin-Helmholtz instability in classical fluids causes characteristic roll-up patterns in shear flows, which have been studied in diverse fields of study as the most fundamental hydrodynamic instability. In this study, it was theoretically revealed that the macroscopic quantum effects, such as superfluidity and quantized vortex, cause novel instability dynamics in atomic Bose-Einstein condensates. I am also interested in analogies with cosmology and high energy physics in superfluid systems.
In this project, I will investigate interface, quantized vortex, and impurity effect in superfluid 3He. I also persue a universal concept of physics on elementary excitations localized on topological defects in Bose and Fermi superfluids.
