RESEARCH
In my Ph.D. study, I explored novel functional materials using single crystals, considering the broken symmetry of materials as a strategy. The discovery of new novel materials suitable for various measurements triggers explosive studies and rapid development in the field, in particular, the topological materials science.
On the other hand, the combination of materials also leads to unique electronic functionalities and phenomena which are difficult or impossible to emerge in an independent material. The proximity effect and the tunneling effect in superconductors are good examples and induce unique electronic states and many important phenomena such as the Josephson effect. Owing to the proximity effect in a topological material, it may be possible to actually measure particles that have only been theoretically hypothesized in elementary particle physics but never observed, such as the Majorana fermion (fermion that is its own antiparticle) and the anyon (particle identified by several exchange operations). Existence of these hypothetical particles leads to not only innovative development in physics, but also pioneering applications of new-type quantum computations.
To this end, we plan to fabricate promising junctions of new topological materials discovered in the former group I used to belong to, and to perform phase sensitive measurements established by the present group. I am convinced that this collaboration should bring grate success and contribute to this field.
